Storm sensing & local warning network
Planetnik
We are building a community network for storm and local weather observation,
powered by local StormNode devices.
The project name is inspired by the Polish Płanetnik — a folklore figure
associated with clouds, rain, hail and storms. The modern Planetnik is a sensor network
designed to help communities understand what is happening above their heads.
StormNode
A prototype local node for lightning detection and weather observation.
Local network
Many measurement points will eventually contribute to a storm activity map.
Warning
The project is being developed toward local alerts and community storm observation.
Planetnik Cloud · now being built
Planetnik community map
From local StormNodes to a shared observation map
We are starting to build Planetnik Cloud — an interactive community map
for storms and local weather observations. The first pilot-related locations are already
being presented. In future stages, the map will combine StormNode information, local
weather conditions, storm activity and sky images.
This is where the community character of Planetnik will become especially visible:
many local observation points will contribute to one shared network view.
