Planetnik storm sensing & local warning network
About us

Who are we?

Planetnik Network is being developed by a small group of people — enthusiasts of weather, storms, electronics, software, infrastructure and DIY projects. We want to find out whether a local network of small StormNode devices can provide useful data about storms and current weather conditions.

A project in incubation

Planetnik is currently in an incubation stage and we are building the first pilot infrastructure. We are developing the devices, software, API, server backend, 3D-printed enclosures and the concept of the first StormNode clusters.

We are moving step by step, testing ideas in practice and growing at a pace that lets us keep control over the technology and data quality.

Small team, broad scope

We are not a large organization or technology company. Planetnik is built by a few people combining skills in electronics, firmware, backend development, systems administration, 3D printing, communication and community development.

Currently self-funded

Prototypes, components, 3D printing, hosting and testing have so far been funded mainly from our own budget. This has allowed the project to reach the first pilot-network stage.

Looking for a sustainable funding model

As the network grows, so do the costs of hardware, infrastructure, maintenance and further prototypes. We are therefore exploring community funding, patronage, sponsorship, grants and other forms of support compatible with the project's character.

Community, not a closed lab

We want Planetnik to grow together with people interested in weather and technology. That is why we are looking for collaborators, pilot participants and locations for the first StormNode devices.

Organizational status

At this stage Planetnik Network does not have a separate legal form and does not operate as a foundation, association or company. It is being developed as a private, informal initiative by a small group of people.

As the project, pilot network and funding model develop, we are considering an appropriate legal form. The decision will depend on project scale, financing, infrastructure responsibilities and the future direction of the community.

What comes next?

The next stage is the Planetnik First Cluster, continued StormNode testing and gathering data from different environments. In parallel, we want to grow a community that can help develop the technology, communication and sustainable funding model.
