Co-create Planetnik
Planetnik is a community-developed non-profit project. We are looking for people who want to contribute their skills, experience and ideas to a local storm and weather observation network — from enclosure design and communication, through application development, to community funding.
Community collaboration, not traditional recruitment
We are not offering a typical salaried position. We invite people to co-create a community project where responsibility, independence, communication and meaningful contribution matter.
Every role is mainly remote. We communicate through messaging tools and video conferences, with occasional in-person meetings for workshops, testing or simply meeting the community.
Do you have a location for StormNode?
We are also looking for participants for the Planetnik First Cluster — an experimental StormNode pilot network.
StormNode enclosure design support
We are looking for someone to help develop the modular StormNode enclosure: from concept and 3D model to test iterations and print-ready parts.
Useful experience:
- designing simple enclosures and practical parts,
- FreeCAD, Fusion 360, Onshape, Solid Edge, Tinkercad or similar tools,
- preparing models in Bambu Studio,
- operating a 3D printer and tuning print parameters,
- evaluating fit, strength, mounting and weather resistance.
We are looking for someone who:
- is creative and technically minded,
- enjoys iterative prototyping and testing,
- can work independently and share progress,
- is comfortable with remote work, video calls and occasional meetings,
- bonus: interest in weather, storms, electronics or DIY projects.
Social media support
We are looking for someone to help tell the Planetnik story, publish project updates and grow an engaged community around local weather, storms, electronics and citizen observation.
Useful experience:
- managing social media profiles and publication calendars,
- writing short, clear and engaging content,
- creating simple graphics, photos, reels or short video materials,
- moderating comments and community conversations,
- analysing audience reactions and suggesting new formats.
We are looking for someone who:
- is communicative, systematic and responsible,
- can simplify technical subjects without distorting them,
- has a good sense of language, aesthetics and online communication,
- wants to build a community, not just publish posts,
- is comfortable with remote work, video calls and occasional meetings,
- bonus: interest in weather, storms, science, electronics or community projects.
Crowdfunding preparation support
We are looking for someone to help prepare Planetnik for community funding through platforms such as Zrzutka.pl, Patronite or similar services. The role includes shaping the project story, campaign communication, informational materials and ways to engage future supporters.
Useful experience:
- creating crowdfunding or fundraising campaigns,
- writing project descriptions, campaign stories and supporter updates,
- planning support tiers, benefits, timelines and communication schedules,
- preparing simple promotional materials, presentations and social content,
- analysing comparable campaigns and identifying what builds trust and engagement.
We are looking for someone who:
- combines strategic thinking with strong communication skills,
- is responsible, systematic and able to take work from idea to publication,
- can clearly explain project goals, costs and stages without over-marketing,
- uses generative AI tools fluently and creatively, especially ChatGPT,
- can write precise prompts, iteratively develop materials and critically verify AI-generated content,
- is comfortable with remote work, video calls and occasional in-person meetings,
- bonus: experience with non-profit, community, scientific, technology or educational projects.
StormNode application development support
We are looking for someone to help develop the custom application used to manage StormNode devices, receive telemetry, present events and photos, configure nodes, and integrate the API with the database.
Useful basic knowledge or practice:
- PHP programming and building simple web applications or API endpoints,
- MySQL or MariaDB: tables, SQL queries, indexes and basic diagnostics,
- hosting environments and confident use of DirectAdmin,
- HTML, CSS and JavaScript at a level useful for developing the web panel,
- integrating IoT devices with backend services, receiving JSON data and handling photo uploads,
- embedded systems basics, especially ESP32-S3 / FireBeetle, AS3935 and BME280 sensors, GNSS/GPS module and OV2640 camera.
We are looking for someone who:
- thinks logically, can analyse errors and is comfortable working with logs,
- understands the difference between device code, API, database and web panel,
- can document changes and work with GitLab repositories,
- is willing to gradually learn firmware and IoT device communication,
- uses AI tools fluently, especially ChatGPT, for code analysis, solution design and documentation,
- can verify AI suggestions and understands that responsibility for code and technical decisions remains with the team,
- is comfortable with remote work, video calls and occasional in-person meetings,
- bonus: interest in weather, electronics, IoT, monitoring or Linux systems.
How does collaboration work?
Most tasks are completed asynchronously, from anywhere and at an agreed pace.
Planning, consultations and progress reviews happen through messaging tools and video calls.
From time to time we may organize workshops, field tests or informal community meetings.
